This installment of the Skyward series follows the POV of Jorgen as he learns to control his new abilities. It also features a trip to the Kitsen homeworld and a deeper interaction with their race, which is both entertaining and adorable. If you like Samurai culture, you'll love the Kitsen.
As always, the writing was enjoyable and the plot had plenty of action of both the physical and psychological variety. The pacing felt a bit off in places, but the story was compelling overall and set the stage for the final Skyward novel.
I love that these novellas gave me a chance to both see what was going on in the wider world/universe while Spensa was otherwise occupied and get closer to the series' supporting characters, who are interesting in their own right.
While not strictly necessary for understanding the main plot of the series, these side stories are a welcome and enjoyable addition to the Skyward universe that I highly recommend including if you are reading the series.
