For my fellow board game fans,
I want to tell you about a new game that I got for Christmas!
This is a great example of a truely cooperative game. Each player chooses a combination of character and class, each with their own skill sets, which gives the game a good deal of variety and replay value. And unlike most games, there is no "bad guy" in Leviathan Wilds. Your characters are researchers trying to heal the leviathans that have been poisoned by blight that twists them into a rampage. So really, not only are you working with your fellow adventurers, you're actually on the same side as the leviathan (although its thrashing sure can hurt!).
The goal of the game is to climb all over the leviathan and break the crystals that are corrupting it. On your turn, you take actions dependant on which cards you play and in which order. There are a lot of things you can do on your turn, like climb, glide, or fall. You can also collect mushrooms for special bonuses, break crystals, and rest to regain your grip. And one of the things that makes this game truely cooperative is that players can choose to play their cards on another player's turn. So if one player has lots of attack points but can't reach a crystal, another player could play a card with a movement ability to get their partner where they need to be.
I've played this game four times since getting it, and I've enjoyed every one. This game has so many variables between leviathans, characters, classes, and difficulty levels that I imagine it will be a long time before we play a repeat game. I highly recommend Leviathan Wilds for anyone who loves cooperative board games with creative game dynamics and a unique story concept.
